COGNITIVE BEHAVIORAL THERAPY

WHAT IS CBT?

Cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) is a goal-oriented approach to therapy that serves to help you change mental habits and ingrained thought patterns. It’s a form of psychotherapy that uproots negative or irrational beliefs, training the mind to better deal with stress and challenging situations.

This practice is designed to complement traditional talk therapy, serving to bridge the gaps between sessions. Our clients gain the tools and resources to restructure their thought patterns in real-time.  It’s associated with greater psychological flexibility, self-efficacy and a strengthened internal locus of control.

THE HAPPINESS OF YOUR LIFE DEPENDS ON THE QUALITY OF YOUR THOUGHTS

THE SCIENCE OF THOUGHT

A microscopic image of a neuron, highlighting the electrical and chemical processes involved in thought.

Thoughts begin as electrical charges- or energetic frequencies- in the brain. Neurons transform these frequencies into chemicals called neurotransmitters.

Our thoughts actually become the things that are sent throughout the body, making us feel equal to how we think. They are the byproducts of past experiences.

Repeatedly thinking the same thoughts hard-wires patterns of communication in the brain so that we can activate these circuits automatically.

This is how we get stuck in negative or fearful thought loops. CBT rewires the brain to unlearn faulty, negative ways of thinking.

SELF-DIRECTED NEUROPLASTICITY

Neuroplasticity refers to the brain’s ability to rewire itself – changing in size and reorganizing synaptic connections – in response to learning and experience.

It’s an emerging area of science that proves we have a large scale of influence over its functionality and behavior. However, this concept isn’t entirely new. Ancient traditions, philosophers and spiritualists have long claimed the mind to be flexible and workable. What you practice grows stronger. Like any muscle, reinforcing the way you mind responds to what’s happening will strengthen those habits over time.

You have immense power in choosing which mental habits get reinforced. Through continued practice, you begin to change your patterns, and in turn, your whole environment. Taming the movement of the mind affects everything else

MEET YOUR NEUROPSYCHOLOGIST

I’ve been a neuropsychologist for 25+ years. In the beginning, this career path came naturally. I was a divorced mother of two who never felt understood by my family and psychology gave me a way to make sense of it all. But it wasn’t long before I realized the frustrations associated with traditional therapy. I heard over and over again, “You’re the 5th, 8th, 10th person I’ve seen and i’m still not getting anywhere." When I came across Rapid Emotive Behavior Therapy (a specific type of CBT) it stood out for its ability to help my patients quickly get to the root cause of their limiting, negative and irrational beliefs. I began to take on a holistic approach to mental health, studying the mind-body connection, a controversial topic to discuss in clinical settings at that time. Fast-forward and I’m grateful to have taken the road less traveled to understand how multi-dimensional aspects of health- physical, mental, emotional and existential -play a role in our well-being. I created VISUALIZEin360 as a tool to supplement conventional therapy and bring about transformative shifts and healing.
